Lucia van Geuns

Lucia van Geuns is the Deputy Head of the Clingendael International Energy Programme (CIEP). Before joining Clingendael in 2003, Ms. van Geuns worked for Royal Dutch Shell for more than twenty years. Her current research focuses on the global oil industry, Asian security of supply and the transition to a low-carbon energy sector. Having studied Earth Sciences at Leiden University, she has a background in the exploration and production of oil and gas. She is also a member of the Earth and Life Sciences Council of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and a board member of the World Energy Council Netherlands.

Ewald Breunesse

Ewald Breunesse is Manager Energy Transitions at Royal Dutch
Shell. In this capacity, he developed the expertise to take a long-term view and draw up scenarios for the future of energy supply. He has great knowledge about possible paths to a more sustainable use and supply of energy and the factors these paths are subject to. He is a member of the Sustainable Mobility Platform.

Geert Greving

Geert Greving is the Head of Public Affairs at GasTerra. After fulfilling several functions at GasTerra, in this capacity he is responsible for Gasterra’s partnerships across the globe. Also, he is the chairmain of the Russia Group of the Dutch Trade Board. Because of his expertise in Russian energy affairs, he has advised the Dutch government and European Commission on matters in this field.

Paul Aarts

Paul Aarts teaches International Relations at the University of Amsterdam. He is an expert on politics and economics of the Middle East. Mr. Aarts has advised the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the European Commission on developments in that region. His publications have focused on the politics and economics of oil-exporting countries in the Middle East and North Africa. (particularly Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran).

André Gerrits

Andre Gerrits is professor in Russian History and Politics at the Leiden University. Before this, he worked at the Eastern-European Studies Department of the University of Amsterdam, where he also held the Jean Monnet Chair for European Studies. This spring, Mr. Gerrits was a visiting scholar at New York University. Previously, he worked as a research fellow at Clingendael. He is currently the chairman of the Amsterdam branch of the Netherlands Society for International Affairs (NGIZ).

Mehdi Amineh

Mehdi Amineh lectures at the University of Amsterdam at the Department of Political Sciences and the Amsterdam Institute of Social Sciences. Also, he is Adjunct Professor of International Relations at Webster University, Leiden, where he also works as a research fellow at the International Institute for AsianStudies. In this position, he is programme director of the Energy Programme Asia research programme. Mr. Amineh has specialized in politics of the Middle East and Central Eurasia, with a particular emphasis on energy-related developments. His research programme at Webster University focuses on the effects of competition for access to oil and gas resources of Central Asia, the Persian Gulf and Africa. Also, he published on EU-energy security and its effects on international relations.

Peter Pozsgai

Peter Pozsgai works for the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission. He is part of the unit “Internal Market II: Wholesale markets; electricity and gas”. Wholesale markets are the cross-border markets where energy is sold in large quantities to energy companies, who then sell it in the consumer market. He has considerable knowledge on the EU’s long-term energy strategy and the integration of European energy markets and policies.
